Message from our Chief Medical Officer – COVID-19 Update

Cardinal Innovations Healthcare — julio 28, 2021

As we continue learning about the behavior of COVID-19 and its variants, it is more important than ever to stay up to date with the latest recommendations from our public health authorities.

Given new evidence on the B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated the guidance for fully vaccinated people. Also, as millions of families around the country prepare to go back to school, the CDC is recommending universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. This should allow for a safe return to in-person learning in the fall with layered prevention strategies in place.

Some of the key updated recommendations from the CDC are:

  • Fully vaccinated people are recommended to wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission.
  • Fully vaccinated people might choose to wear a mask regardless of the level of transmission, particularly if they are immunocompromised or at increased risk for severe disease from COVID-19, or if they have someone in their household who is immunocompromised, at increased risk of severe disease or not fully vaccinated.
  • Fully vaccinated people who have a known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 should be tested 3-5 days after exposure and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result.
  • Universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to schools, regardless of vaccination status

While wearing masks will help reduce transmission, what will really make a difference is to get more and more people vaccinated. That is why one more time, we would like to encourage everyone to follow the most recent recommendations by the CDC and to get vaccinated if you haven’t done so yet. As we prepare for back to school, please get your eligible children vaccinated (above 12 years old) for a safe return to an in-person learning environment.

Here are some resources with more details to stay safe and help slow the spread:

Thank you for all you do and for helping ensure we will beat this pandemic together! We all have a responsibility to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities.
